Wedding songs 1970s

Last Updated on: 25 March 2025

Here we are, your ProfessionalWeddingDJ, professional DJs specialized in wedding parties, to talk about ’70s music. This idea came to us just at a recent wedding, where several guests asked us titles of the songs of the 70’s that we have proposed, in this specific situation, between the cake and the beginning of the first dance of the newlyweds, a “delicate” moment, where the music should already be upbeat, but not too much. Well, these requests (and congratulations …) from the guests are pleasing, but we are not surprised. Frequently, when the DJ, at parties, plays 70’s music, the recurring songs are always the same (Gloria Gaynor, Village People…), because hobbyists deeejays ignore the most beautiful songs of the period.

OK, but what songs are you talking about? (you’re probably wondering now…)

Well, it’s about  brilliant pieces, danceable, catchy and classy, by ProfessionalWeddingDJ, your Weddings DJ .

DJ for wedding parties: the beautiful music of the 70’s

Let’s start with a piece that we want to advise you: Let’s Groove, by Earth, Wind & Fire: listen to it !

target="_blank" rel="noopener">Jocelyn Brown ‎- Ain’t No Mountain High Enough – This track is really beautiful, is not? Of course, it is not for the “highlight”  of the event, but it can really make the difference in some situations! It  makes you move your head …  It has rhythm and a great class! This piece is the 2013 version of Ain’t No Mountain High Enough released in 1981, updated with a bass line funky house, and with 70’s disco influences that make this song irresistible and happy … if you want to listen to the Marvin Gaye’s original version of 1967  (beautiful, so much so that we still use it!) click Here We would like to go a bit in the past and remember the early funky: who can forget James Brown, the creator of the funky, with I Got You, 1966 and 1970 Sex Machine: https://youtu.be/oIZx93Y4Yas
Interesting, then, the contamination in the seventies and eighties of the funk and disco music: we have many examples of groups that have been very successful, as the Jackson Five, the Earth, Wind & Fire, Kool & The Gang and the Brand New Heavies. Here’s a piece of Kool and the Gang: Celebration

Let’s jump back to the 80s

Summer 2022 will be remembered for  the rediscovery of the 80s songs, thanks to the TV series Stranger Things; “Running Up That Hill” (1985) by Kate Bush, the most important song in the fourth episode of the fourth season, reached the top of the billboard chart, and in August 2022 is at number 4 (Kate Bush earned $ 2.3 million in streaming royalties this summer). The request from the spouses for 80s songs has increased a lot, and we will soon dedicate a separate article; we really love the music of that decade, and we can recommend the most suitable pieces!

WEDDING PARTY: LET’S TALK ABOUT REVIVAL SONGS

We also mention a group that probably won’t tell you much (the Cassette) but they did a great job with their My Way, a 2021 version of a I Will survive by Gloria Gaynor. It is perfect in opening the revival moment of your wedding party. The revival moment is often crucial and the 70s and 80s music is a win choice for the wedding party: Donna Summer, Barry White, Madonna, Chic, Michael Jackson and many others are excellent ingredients for a varied, classy and engaging party. Of course, each party is a unique and makes its own story. For example in wedding parties with young spouses and guests, hits of the moment are the most requested.
