Wedding playlist 2023: summer updates

.
Brides and friends of ProfessionalWeddingDJ, summer is always the ideal season for weddings, and the 2023 is no exception. In particular, when it comes to international weddings, many ceremonies have been moved from 2021 and 2022 to 2023, in order to be safe from Covid-related restrictions (not a few couples, especially those living abroad in Asia, have found themselves in this scenario). This has created an even more special and anticipated atmosphere for weddings this year.

As usual, we find ourselves in the middle of summer and we want to share with you the latest updates on the current music scene. In particular, we want to highlight the songs that perfectly fit the key moments of wedding receptions, such as the couple’s first dance and the cake cutting. We know how important it is to choose the right songs to create an exciting and engaging atmosphere during these special moments.

So, if you’re searching for the perfect soundtrack for your big day, we’re here to assist you in creating a unique and memorable experience for you and your guests, with the right music for every moment of your wedding. Don’t miss out on our tips and suggestions for songs to include for the first dance and cake cutting. Remember that personal preferences play a significant role in song selection, so feel free to choose songs that resonate with you and your partner’s style and taste. Creating a playlist that reflects your journey and captures the essence of your relationship will undoubtedly make these moments even more special and memorable for both you and your guests.

Wedding Playlist Summer 2023

Let’s start with a nod to the music from our own country (we are italian wedding DJs based in Milano, for international weddings in Italy). Light and carefree summer melodies are definitely not in short supply (in fact, quite the opposite!), to the point where we can speak of a true “invasion.” We can’t go without mentioning “Italodisco” by The Kolors (which, surprisingly, is gaining strong popularity in Germany and other counties as well).

In this scorching Summer of 2023, however, there are indeed some very interesting tracks to highlight. An example?

The return of Dua Lipa (we’ll talk about her later in the dance music section) and OneRepublic (with Runaway) and the new single from Jon BatisteBe Who You Are (Real Magic)” written by the American singer-songwriter, a “fresh” Grammy winner, who celebrates those who remain true to themselves and spreads the message that when we accept each other’s differences, the “real magic” can ignite. A beautiful lyric, therefore, paired with captivating music that is great to listen to even in this “summer 2023.”

And now a “gem” that suits the most romantic moments of the wedding.

SONGS FOR THE CAKE CUTTING SUMMER 2023: AN IDEA TO ADD TO YOUR PLAYLIST

The return of Noel Gallagher with “Open The Door” is very welcome, a true anthem to life, suitable for the cake cutting, to create an authentic and engaging atmosphere that will contribute to making your day even more memorable. “At a certain point in your life, you look in the mirror and see everything you’ve always been and everything you will be” explained Noel in an interview. “It’s about being happy with who you are, where you are in life, and where you’re going. Life is beautiful!”.

On the other hand, a song from this summer that portrays a complicated relationship is certainly not suitable for the first dance or the cake cutting: “Eyes Closed” by Ed Sheeran.

“This song is about losing someone, the feeling that every time you go out and expect to see them, and everything just reminds you of them and the things you did together”.

Every song reminds me you’re gone, and I feel the lump form in my throat

‘Cause I’m here alone

Just dancin’ with my eyes closed

‘Cause everywhere I look, I still see you

HOUSE, DANCE: ENTERING THE “DISCO” AT THE WEDDING PARTY

Turning a bit towards music with a high concentration of rhythm and BPM, that is, the current dance music of this summer 2023, we have the Black Eyed Peas, who continue the Latin trend of recent years with “Bailar Contigo” (which samples Scatman, the 90s hit by Scatman John). Overall, a song that still works on the dance floor despite being released in the spring.

Absolutely successful is David Guetta‘s choice to reinterpret the 90s classic “What Is Love” by Haddaway in his song “Baby Don’t Hurt Me,” in collaboration with Anne-Marie and Coi Leray: can add a touch of nostalgia and fun to your wedding. Tracks that draw inspiration from past hits can create a playful and engaging atmosphere, especially when combined with more contemporary sounds.

This type of song can be perfect for kicking off the revival moment during your reception, encouraging guests to dance and have fun.

Speaking of revival, let’s mention “Substitution,” a track that draws from a great 80s classic like “Big in Japan” by Alphaville. These kinds of reinterpretations and samples are quite common in dance music, as they bring a breath of fresh air to past successes, adapting them to modern sounds and creating a connection between generations. The collaboration between Purple Disco Machine and Dj Kung for “Substitution” is a perfect example of how the art of sampling and reinterpreting can breathe new life into iconic tracks. The infectious and danceable rhythm of the song makes it perfect for getting the guests moving, perhaps after dinner, to create a disco-style atmosphere with the right lights and proper sound system!

Latin rhythms are less prominent compared to previous years, but we highlight the reggaeton of “Tuya,” performed by Rosalía, a true icon of the genre. And the ever-present Dua Lipa? This year, she arrived on the summer scene with “Dance the Night Away“, loaded with 70s references, also making headlines for being part of the soundtrack of the film dedicated to the world’s most famous doll, Barbie. Another song to dance to with style is “(It Goes Like) Nanana” by Peggy Gou, the DJ pseudonym of Kim Min-ji, a South Korean disc jockey, record producer, and fashion designer.

We invite you to continue following us and staying updated on the latest musical trends for weddings. Your special day deserves an equally special soundtrack, and we’re here to make everything even more magical with the right music!
