From the 2020 VMA… to your wedding!

MTV Video Music Awards: some inspirations for you

The summer is about to end, and, to recap the situation as regards music, here are the MTV Video Music Awards, in this very special edition, conducted by actress and singer Keke Palmer and dedicated to Chadwick Boseman, the actor died a few days ago at just 43 years old.

Thanks to the Corona Virus emergency, which also in America is giving many thoughts, it was decided not to opt for an indoor location (initially the Barclays Center in Brooklyn was chosen) but for different outdoor places scattered around the city: in short, as they say today, a “widespread” event.

The Weeknd with Blinding Lights won the main prize: best video. And, with the same song, he won the statuette for the Best R&B song. Well, we at ProfessionalWeddingDJ (see here our post about the 2018 edition) are obviously very satisfied about this success, considering, often, the songs of the Canadian artist are playd by our DJs during weddings. The Weeknd’s music in particular is suitable for the “soft” moments, or a little more rhythmic … (but not too much: floorfiller songs are… others).

The other coveted “artist of the year” award of the 2020 edition of the MTV Video Music Awards was won by Lady Gaga, who, moreover, was not “satisfied” with this award: in total, she even deserved five; the two most important are “Best Song”, shared with Ariana Grande, for the song Rain on Me, which also allowed her to win the title of best collaboration of 2020 (obviously, the couple Gaga-Grande, it works!). Lady Gaga was in great shape for the event, and as always, she was on trend using “tech” masks that showed the light waveform of the music (but the really positive note is that the mask didn’t take it off. throughout the evening, set a good example for everyone).

Other awards also include Taylor Swift‘s video (best director) for The Man, and Doja Cat was elected best debut artist; the Korean BTS won four awards including Best K-Pop and Best Group.

Amazing was the performance on stage of the Black Eyed Peas, who proposed their new single, Vida loca. No prizes, however, for them, like Dua Lipa (despite the two very strong singles Don’t Start Now and Physical) and Billie Ellish. The fact remains that, in particular the Albanian singer, is very welcome at wedding parties, and not only by the very young party addicted: the sound, in fact, for the two pieces we referred to, are pleasantly “old style” (70s and 80s).

Finally, a curiosity: this year, thanks to the quarantine imposed by the pandemic, a new category has been added, the Best Music Video shot from home, which went to Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande for Stuck with U.
